Rites of Passage

The Rites of Passage school is a School based intervention program for Aboriginal youth between the ages of 12 to 15 years who are at risk of not succeeding in the regular school system. This program is a partnership between Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and Amiskwaciy Academy with Edmonton Public Schools. This program has been in operations since 1996 and provides academic, lifeskills and cultural and traditional teachings.

There is also an Outreach Program that supports families in their own communities by linking them to the appropriate resources.

Our Goals and Objectives are to:

  • Help Aboriginal youth stay in school.

  • Help Aboriginal youth experience academic success.

  • Help connect or reconnect youth with with their culture.

  • Help youth to foster a sense of community.

  • Help youth to have healthy relationships with family.

  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices.

  • Help youth who are facing diffuculties in their lives to access community resources and make appropriate choices for themselves.

  • Ensure a successful transition back to the regular school system.
